CCAP General Information

Continuing Competence Approval Program (CCAP)

The Texas Physical Therapy Association (TPTA) administers the CCAP on behalf of the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners (TBPTE).  Courses must meet the criteria set by the TBPTE Rules.

Texas does not offer reciprocal credit with other state jurisdictions; however, many other states may accept Texas credit.  Please check with the state licensing board to determine whether the course qualifies for credit in that state.

Most Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find the approval number for a course I’ve taken?

The course approval number or accredited provider number should be listed on the certificate of completion you receive after completing the course.  Licensees should contact the sponsor to receive this number if it is not included on the certificate.  TPTA can verify whether a course is approved; however, we cannot provide approval numbers since we do not have the ability to verify attendance. You can also do a search on the CCAP website under the main menu item, CCAP Online Course Search

What do I do for Ethics credits?

The Texas Jurisprudence Assessment Module (JAM) has replaced the previous Jurisprudence Exam and the ethics/responsibility requirement for individuals renewing either their PT or PTA license. Ethics/professional responsibility courses may be counted towards the total number of required CCUs if renewing on or after June 1, 2017, but cannot be counted instead of the new JAM requirement. Why does it take several weeks to process an application?

Courses are reviewed in the order they are received. Current processing time is around 4 weeks. Certain sponsor course applications may qualify for optional expediting – please refer to the sponsor course information on the CCAP site for more information.

What items do I need to submit with my application?

To complete a course application, you will need to submit the following items:

  • Timed schedule or table of contents (if requesting credit for reading)
  • List of course objectives
  • CV or Bio for each course instructor/speaker
  • Statement of relevance to the practice of physical therapy
  • List of instructional methods for the course
  • Course certificate
  • Course evaluation

Please note that the items above are required for a complete application. Applications without all the documents above cannot be processed or approved.
